۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
