Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 And (the clouds) that bear heavy weight of water; 2 and the smooth runners 3 And those (angels) who distribute (provisions, rain, and other blessings) by (Allah's) Command; 4 indeed, that which you are promised is true, 5 and the recompense shall surely happen. 6 I swear by the heaven full of ways. 7 Most surely you are at variance with each other in what you say, 8 he is turned away from [the truth] who is destined to be so turned away. 9 Cursed be the liars, 10 who flounder in the depths of ignorance. 11 They ask: when is the Day of Requital coming? 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (and tested) over the Fire! 13 (And it will be said unto them): Taste your torment (which ye inflicted). This is what ye sought to hasten. 14 Surely the godfearing shall be among gardens and fountains 15 Taking joy in the things which their Lord has given them. Verily, they were before this Muhsinun (good-doers - see V. 2:112). 16 sleeping little in the night-time, 17 and at dawn would ask forgiveness, 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 In the earth are signs for those having sure faith; 20 And also in your ownselves. Will you not then see? 21 And in heaven is [the source of] your sustenance [on earth] and [of] all that you are promised [for your life after death]: 22 Then, by the Lord of heaven and earth, this is the very Truth, as much as the fact that ye can speak intelligently to each other. 23
