The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
