We created you, then We shaped you, then We said to the angels: 'Bow yourselves to Adam'; so they bowed themselves, save Iblis -- he was not of those that bowed themselves. 11 God asked, "What prevented you from prostrating yourself when I commanded you to?" He replied, "I am better than he is; You created me from fire, while You created him from clay." 12 Allah said: 'Then get you down from here. It does not behove you to be arrogant here. So be gone. You will be among the humiliated.' 13 Satan asked the Lord to give him respite (keep him alive) until the Day of Resurrection. 14 Allah said: 'You are granted respite.' 15 Said he, 'Now, for Thy perverting me, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Thy straight path; 16 and come upon them from the front and from the rear, from their right and from their left. Then, You shall find most of them ungrateful' 17 "Begone," said (God), "contemptible and rejected! As for those who follow you, I shall fill up Hell with all of you. 18 "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as ye wish: but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression." 19 But Satan tempted them so that he might reveal to them their nakedness which had been hidden from them. He said, "Your Lord has forbidden you to approach this tree lest you should become angels or become of the immortals," 20 Satan swore before them that he was giving them good advice. 21 and thus he led them on with deluding thoughts. But as soon as the two had tasted [the fruit] of the tree, they became conscious of their nakedness; and they began to cover themselves with pieced-together leaves from the garden. And their Sustainer called 22 They said: "O our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we shall certainly be lost." 23 (Allah) said: "Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time." 24 He said: 'There you shall live and there you shall die, and from there you shall emerge' 25
