The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 and gently take it away; 2 And by those who float in space, 3 Then press forward as in a race, 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 The day on which the quaking one shall quake, 6 And the second followeth it, 7 On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing, 8 and their eyes shall be downcast with dread. 9 They say: 'What, are we being restored as we were before, 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss." 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 to bring them out of their graves and back to life on the earth's surface. 14 Have you received the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say to him, "Would you like to reform yourself? 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 So Moosa showed him a magnificent sign. 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
