The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
