The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 On the Day when secrets are disclosed, 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 And it is not amusement. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Therefore give them some respite give them some time. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
