The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
