۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
