Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Reality! 1 What is the concrete reality? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 The people of Thamud and Ad denied the Day of Judgment. 4 The Thamuds were destroyed by a violent blast of sound. 5 and the Ad were destroyed by a furiously raging wind-storm 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Do you then see of them one remaining? 8 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark), 11 making it a Reminder for you, for all attentive ears to retain. 12 Then when the Horn is blown with one blast 13 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 And the heaven will split asunder so on that day it will be unstable. 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that Day you will be brought to judgement and none of your secrets will remain hidden. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 So he will be in a pleasant life - 21 In a lofty Paradise, 22 its fruits are near. 23 (They will be told): “Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for the good deeds you did in the days that have passed by.” 24 But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book 25 and not known my reckoning! 26 "I wish, would that it had been my end (death)! 27 My wealth hath not availed me, 28 "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" 29 (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, 30 and then roast him in Hell, 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 “Indeed he refused to accept faith in Allah, the Greatest.” 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 That is why he has no friend today, 35 Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, 36 which none but the sinners eat!" 37
