He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
