The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 the stars are made to fade away, 2 And when the mountains shall made to pass away; 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 stars which are visible during the night 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
