Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 The Lord inquired: "Iblis! What is the matter with you that you did not join those who prostrated?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 Allah said: then get thee forth therefrom; verily thou art one damned. 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 Iblis said: "My Lord! In the manner You led me to error, I will make things on earth seem attractive to them and lead all of them to error, 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
