The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
