He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
