The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
