Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
