Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
