We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 But lo, each time We removed Our affliction from them, they would go back on their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 "Am I not better than this (Moses), who is a contemptible wretch and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 Why have no armlets of gold been given him, or angels sent down successively with him' 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 So when they vexed Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all. 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
