A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
