The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
