The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
