The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
96 verses, revealed in Mecca after T H (Taa Haa) before The Poets (Alshu'araa')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
