The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
