The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
