And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He; there has now come to you a clear sign from your Lord -- this is the She-camel of God, to be a sign for you. Leave her that she may eat in God's earth, and do not touch her with evil, lest you be seized by a painful chastisement. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 [But] the arrogant ones said: "Behold, what you have come to believe in we refuse to regard as true!" 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel, and insolently defied the commandment of their Lord, saying, "O Salih! Bring upon us what you threaten us with if you are indeed a messenger." 77 Then the earthquake overtook them, so they became motionless bodies in their abode. 78 And Salih left them, saying: 'O my people! I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and gave you good advice; but you have no liking for your well-wishers.' 79 And (We sent) Lut when he said to his people: What! do you commit an indecency which any one in the world has not done before you? 80 In preference to women you satisfy your lust with men. Indeed you are a people who are guilty of excess." 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 So We delivered him and his followers, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind. 83 We sent a torrential rain unto the (unbelievers). Consider how disastrous the end of the criminals was! 84
