Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
