And indeed We punished the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with years of drought and shortness of fruits (crops, etc.), that they might remember (take heed). 130 But whenever good befell them, they said: This is ours; and whenever evil smote them they ascribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him. Surely their evil auspice was only with Allah. But most of them knew not. 131 And they said: Whatever portent thou bringest wherewith to bewitch us, we shall not put faith in thee. 132 Thereupon We let loose upon them floods, and [plagues of] locusts, and lice, and frogs, and [water turning into] blood - distinct signs [all]: but they gloried in their arrogance, for they were people lost in sin. 133 And whensoever a plague fell on them, they said: O Musa! supplicate thy Lord for us, by that which He hath covenanted with thee; surely if thou remove the plague from us we will surely believe in thee, and we will send away with thee the Children of Isra'il. 134 But when We did remove from them the terror for a term which they must reach, behold! they broke their covenant. 135 So We exacted retribution from them and drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our signs and paid no heed to them; 136 And We made the people who were oppressed, the inheritors of the eastern and western parts of the land in which We placed blessings; and the good promise of your Lord was fulfilled for the Descendants of Israel – the reward of their patience; and We destroyed whatever Firaun and his people built and whatever they had contrived. 137 And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and they came unto a people who were given up to idols which they had. They said: O Moses! Make for us a god even as they have gods. He said: Lo! ye are a folk who know not. 138 what they are engaged in is doomed to destruction and all their works are in vain." 139 "Do you want me to seek for you," he said, "a god other than God, when He has exalted you over all the nations of the world? 140 And recall what time We delivered you from the house of Fir'awn perpetrating on you terrible torment, slaying your sons and letting your women live, and therein was a trial from your Lord, tremendous. 141
