He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
