The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
