And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 Surely, Hell is the place to which they are destined, 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
