When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Surely in that are signs for such as mark; 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 AND THE DWELLERS of the wooded dales [of Madyan, too,] were inveterate evildoers, 78 and We took vengeance on them. The two of them were upon a roadway manifest. 79
