Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot). 61 He said: "Ye appear to be uncommon folk." 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And guard against (the punishment of) Allah and do not put me to shame. 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
