When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 but be conscious of God and disgrace me not!" 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely in that are signs for such as mark; 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79
