When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
