Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
