Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
