In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
