In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Ta, Ha. 1 We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed 2 But as admonition for him who fears -- 3 A revelation from Him Who created the earth and the high heavens, 4 the Most Gracious, established on the throne of His almightiness? 5 To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and whatever lies in between them, and all that lies under the ground. 6 And if you (O Muhammad SAW) speak (the invocation) aloud, then verily, He knows the secret and that which is yet more hidden. 7 God -- there is no god but He. To Him belong the Names Most Beautiful. 8 Hath there come unto thee the story of Musa? 9 When he saw a fire, he said to his family, "Wait here. I can see a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a brand from it, or find some guidance at the fire." 10 And when he came to it (the fire), he was called by name: "O Musa (Moses)! 11 Surely I am your Lord, therefore put off your shoes; surely you are in the sacred valley, Tuwa, 12 I Myself have chosen thee; therefore give thou ear to this revelation. 13 Lo! I, even I, am Allah, There is no Allah save Me. So serve Me and establish worship for My remembrance. 14 Lo! the Hour is surely coming. But I will to keep it hidden, that every soul may be rewarded for that which it striveth (to achieve). 15 So let not him who believeth not therein and followeth his own desire keep thee away therefrom lest thou perish. 16 "And what is that in the right hand, O Moses?" 17 He replied, "It is my staff. I lean on it, and with it, I beat down the leaves for my flock; I also have other uses for it." 18 Said He: "Throw it down, O Moses!" 19 He cast it down, and behold! It was a snake, moving quickly. 20 Said He: "Take hold of it, and fear not: We shall restore it to its former state. 21 And press thy hand to thy side, it will come forth white, without hurt, as another sign. 22 That We may go on showing you Our greater signs. 23 "[And now] go thou unto Pharaoh: for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of equity. 24

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
