To Moses we also revealed: 'Set forth with My worshipers by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea. Do not fear that you will be overtaken, neither be afraid' 77 Pharaoh followed them with his hosts, but they were overwhelmed by the sea; 78 And Pharaoh led his folk astray, he did not guide them. 79 O Children of Israel; We delivered you from your enemy, and treated with you on the right side of the mount and sent down upon you the manna and the quails. 80 "Partake of the good things which We have provided for you as sustenance, but do not transgress therein the bounds of equity lest My condemnation fall upon you: for, he upon whom My condemnation falls has indeed thrown himself into utter ruin!" 81 But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance. 82 ۞ And what caused you to hasten from your people, O Musa? 83 He said: They are here on my track and I hastened on to Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be pleased. 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 Moses returned to his people in anger and great sorrow. He said, "My people, did your Lord not make you a handsome promise? Was my absence too long for you? Did you desire that your Lord's wrath should descend upon you, when you broke your promise to me?" 86 They replied, "We did not go against our promise with you out of our own accord. We were forced to carry people's ornaments. We threw them away and so did the Samiri. 87 He therefore made a calf for them – a lifeless body, making sounds like a cow – so they said, “This is your God and the God of Moosa; whereas Moosa has forgotten.” 88 So do they not see that it does not answer to any of their speech? And has no power to cause them any harm or benefit? 89
