۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
