۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
