۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
