Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
