And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 “They are all my enemies, except the Lord Of The Creation.” 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
