And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
