Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 "And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement." 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 "And forgive my paternal uncle - he is indeed astray." 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 "So now we do not have any intercessors." 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
