Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a true friend; 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
