Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
