The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
